Equitable Recruitment

By June 2024, the Public Defender, in line with County Equal Employment Opportunity Policy, will develop summer law clerk and post-Bar law clerk programs that will increase law clerk opportunities for people of color consistent with the local population.

Create recruitment materials that emphasize our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and promote Whole Person defense. Contact minority law student groups at least 12 law schools in the western region of the United States and engage in active recruitment, and provide information and outreach to minority law student groups about indigent defense and our whole client approach; Engage with at least three affinity Bar associations and create awareness of both the office and law clerk programs. Use the more diverse pool of candidates generated by these efforts to recruit and hire a more diverse team of law clerks.
