SEIU Local 415 has announced that they will strike March 14, 2006. This information is provided to lessen disruption to the public and is subject to change due to staff availability.

 

 

Agricultural Commissioner: 763-8080

Critical services will be provided, including pest inspection and pesticide reviews

175 Westridge will be open limited hours

640 Capitola Road will be closed

 

UCCE (Agricultural Extension): 763-8040

            Will provide services, but office will not be open

 

Animal Services: 454-7303

Mandated services will be provided, including rabies control, animals involved in depredation of livestock, and housing of stray or abandoned animals.

 

            Shelters in Scotts Valley and Watsonville will remain open to the public if sufficient staff are available. In the event of inadequate staffing, only intake of stray or abandoned animals will take place, with no adoptions, dog license sales or general visitation.

 

Child Support Services:  454-3700

All services will be available at the Santa Cruz office. The Watsonville office will be closed.

 

Health Services Agency: 454-4000

The following services will be available:

Psychiatric Emergency, Crisis & Medication Services

Public Guardian

Clinic Medical Care including basic pharmacy and lab services

Environmental Health Emergencies including hazardous waste services and other unforeseen emergencies

Public Health Communicable Disease Services

Burial Permits

Jail and Juvenile Hall Health Services

 

The following Health Services Agency buildings will be open:

1400 Emeline Ave., Santa Cruz for mental health care

12 West Beach, Watsonville, for mental health care

1080 Emeline Ave., Santa Cruz for medical care services

9 Crestview/1430 Freedom, Watsonville for medical care services

701 Ocean Ave., Environmental Health 3rd Floor

The following services will be provided at reduced staffing levels:

Child Protective Services (CPS): screening and investigating only: 454-4222

The office on the 3rd floor of the Government Center will be open and will accept employment applications. The offices in Watsonville and on the 5th floor of the Government Center will be closed. The clerical exam test scheduled for 5:30 in the cafeteria will occur as scheduled.

 

Planning Department: 454-2580

Zoning Counter: Appointments will be canceled and rescheduled. Plans and appeals will be accepted.

Aptos and Felton Permit Centers: Closed

Building/Grading Inspections and BP Finals will be conducted as staffing permits

 

Probation Department: 454-3812

3650 Graham Hill Rd, Felton: Open for Juvenile Hall, Juvenile Court, and intake

Public Works Department: 454-2160

Brommer Yard (Roads) and Lode Street (Sanitation) dispatchers will field normal emergency calls at both facilities.

One employee will staff public counter (Room 410) for general information only, 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

No development review services will be available (no services related to design/developments, recording of maps, surveyor questions, fees, etc.).

All design projects will be placed on hold, including coordination with outside agencies and the public.  The public will not be able to process encroachment permits, road bump requests, transportation permits, sewer connection permits, or other non-emergency traffic-related inquiries.

Construction inspection of ongoing DPW contract projects will be handled by management staff.

Landfill and Transfer Station will be open during normal operating hours; however, no Household Hazardous Waste or Construction and Demolition Recycling will be available.

Room 410 Government Center phone and counter will be open for normal working hours, but staffing levels will be limited.

Recordation of documents presented over the counter, acceptance of orders for copies of birth, death, and marriage certificates and copies of official records, limited assistance to the public in searching records

 

The following services will not be available

Preparation of copies of birth, death, and marriage certificates and copies  of official records with a pre- 1997 date

Grantor/grantee indexes. Information on newly recorded documents will not be available

Microfilming or newly recorded documents. Copies of these documents will not be available.
